Salary Information
Department Summary The UNT Psychology Clinic was established 50 years ago and has grown into one of the largest doctoral psychology training clinics nationwide. It is one of only a handful that is housed in a Tier One (R1) university that also holds the distinction of being a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The primary aim of the the UNT Psychology Clinic is to facilitate the training of doctoral students in health service psychology who are specializing in either Clinical or Counseling Psychology (both programs are APA-accredited).
Under the close supervision of licensed psychologists, doctoral trainee clinicians in the UNT Psychology Clinic focus on acquiring core competencies in assessment, psychotherapy, and supervision via evidence-based practices while serving a highly diverse clientele in terms of demography (race/ethnicity; language; religion; sexual and/or gender identity; age), geographic location (in-person versus tele-mental health to penetrate rural areas), and diagnostic presentation or complexity. Quality of care is closely monitored by supervisors at all times. The UNT Psychology Clinic is the largest outpatient provider within a federally designated mental health professional shortage area to a medically underserved community of impoverished individuals. It is also the nearest low-cost, sliding fee-based outpatient provider for geographically rural counties designated as mental health professional shortage areas.
In addition to providing formative learning experiences for doctoral students, and serving the needs of local and regional clients, the UNT Psychology Clinic mission also encompasses support of faculty and student research. A review of articles appearing in the premier journal on Training and Education in Professional Psychology suggests the UNT Psychology Clinic is the foremost contemporary contributor to evidence-based advances in clinical training and competency development. The Clinic Director holds an integral role in collaboratively developing and managing key infrastructure to support clinical research (e.g., electronic health records, routine outcome tracking, appraisals of trainee competency).
The UNT Psychology Clinic is located on the flagship research campus of UNT in Denton Texas. Denton serves as an anchoring community in the larger Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, which is the fastest growing region of Texas and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States. As a result, UNT’s 42,000 students (including more than 8,000 graduate students) are highly diverse and a wide range of languages are spoken within and beyond the classroom.
The Clinic Director works closely with the Psychology Clinic Executive Committee and is supported by both full- and part-time staff to meet the three primary aims of the Psychology Clinic (teaching, service, research). Formal and informal mentoring networks and processes are established to promote feelings of success, support, and community. Candidates from groups who are underrepresented in the discipline of psychology, those with professional or research experiences working with underserved populations, and individuals with life experiences that have challenged them to know themselves as multicultural beings are encouraged to apply.
Position Summary The Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a full-time (12-month) position, with primary responsibility to serve as Director of the UNT Psychology Clinic. The Clinic is a community-serving mental health facility that is the primary training site for doctoral (Ph.D.) students in APA-accredited clinical and counseling programs. The Clinic is located on the UNT campus and is an active, year-round, outpatient mental health clinic serving the greater DFW Metroplex. The primary responsibilities of the Clinic Director are to oversee provision of clinical services and training experiences of doctoral students at the UNT Psychology Clinic, which is a member of the Association of Psychology Training Clinics (APTC).
