The University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a Director of Special Events.  This job will report to the Associate Dean for Development will be responsible for overseeing and managing of all fundraising, campaign, stewardship and departmental events, as well as Dean’s Board meetings and Dean’s events that advance the philanthropic mission of the School of Medicine.  This position will solicit competitive bids and negotiate contracts for all services related to events and also manage event budgets.  The Director of Special Events will also be responsible for all event-related communications to internal and external constituencies to ensure that all events are well-attended.  The Director of Special Events must maintain accurate historical files for all events and will be responsible for post-event evaluation.  This position would also require supervision of staff members to accomplish these responsibilities and other projects as assigned.
This position will also oversee personnel who will be responsible working with the Director of Development and Board relations to assist with the management of the School of Medicine’s Board of Visitors.  The Director of Special Events will manage personnel who will be responsible for coordinating the logistics of semi-annual meetings, new member orientation and sub-committee meetings. This position will work closely with the Associate Dean for Development and Director of Development and Board Relations to maximize the success of all events related to the Board of Visitors.

Primary Duties:

  • The Director of Special Events will be asked to plan and execute all fundraising events, including the annual University of Maryland Fund for Medicine Gala.
  • This position will also be responsible for planning and executing all cultivation events for the School of Medicine capital campaign, including regional receptions, cultivation dinners at Hidden Waters and the Dean’s.  
  • The Director of Special Events will be responsible for all stewardship and donor recognition events, including investiture ceremonies, recognition lunches and dinners, gold medal receptions and other events as appropriate.
  • The Director of Special Events will also oversee personnel who will be responsible for working with the Director of Development and Board Relations in managing events logistics and production of the School of Medicine’s Board of Visitors and all related meeting activities.

 

Qualifications

  
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience in event or meeting management, fundraising or development, public, or client relations.
Supervisory Experience: Three (3) years of direct supervision.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) preferred.
Other: Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and utilize events platforms for event participant registration, reporting, attendee responses, etc.
Hiring Range: $85,000 – $90,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
