Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director of Research (Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science) in Health Care Policy and Aging Research at Institute for Health.
Under the direction of the Director of PETS, the Director of Research supervises staff and day-to-day research activities for the Center. The Director of Research leads execution of state-of-the-art multidisciplinary studies in the field of pharmacoepidemiology at the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science, based at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. Research projects include federal, foundation, and industry funded grants and contracts in various areas of pharmacoepidemiology, typically using large administrative claims and electronic health records data. The Director of Research drafts manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, drafts research grants and contracts, directs research staff and data analysts, and communicates with collaborators. This role also contributes to the identification of areas of future research. The Director of Research supervises diverse and multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring that projects achieve their stated goals and adhere to their established timelines.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Design and implement pharmacoepidemiology research.
  • Lead research activities including application of appropriate statistical methods, interpretation of results, reporting, and communication of results.
  • Supervise diverse staff in the execution of research projects.
  • Recruits research staff.
  • Develop protocols, statistical analysis plans, abstracts, reports, and publications.
  • Develop detailed specifications for study databases and analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicate requirements to the data analysts.
  • Publish research findings and present findings at professional scientific meetings.
  • Supervise and/or coordinate project managers, data analysts, and clinical and scientific collaborators to ensure that project goals and aims are achieved within the established timelines.
  • Lead meetings of project teams with internal and external collaborators.
  • Support the preparation of grant proposals, including with the organization and writing of background material and conduct of preliminary data analyses.
  • Consult and communicate regularly with project principal investigators.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters Degree or PhD required, plus ten years of experience which includes five (5) years of research experience and five (5) years of leadership experience within a large healthcare institution.
  • Formal training in a relevant scientific discipline such as epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, outcomes research, or health services research, and practical experience conducting human subjects research.

  • Possess strong skills in written and verbal communication and time management as well as familiarity with scientific writing.
  • Communicates with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
