Position Description & Qualifications PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Director of Recruitment manages a team of admissions officers primarily responsible for recruiting first-year domestic students to Lawrence University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which contributes to the university goal of increasing applications for admission and continually selecting students for admission who are most likely to thrive and succeed at Lawrence.
GENERAL
Lawrence University, a top tier college of liberal arts and sciences and conservatory of music, seeks a smart, enthusiastic, creative leader who will bring a unique perspective to the admissions team. The admissions team at Lawrence takes a collaborative approach to a student-centered admissions process. This position has an opportunity to build relationships with students and their families, as well as with university faculty and staff, and key institutional constituents. The successful candidate takes initiative for territory management and achieving the university’s recruitment goals, helping to build a bright, talented, and diverse student body. This position contributes to the greater institutional mission to prepare students for lifelong learning, meaningful citizenship, personal fulfillment, and lives of achievement in a diverse learning community.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage non-director-level admissions counseling staff who have primary responsibility for recruiting first-time, first-year domestic students to Lawrence University’s college of liberal arts and sciences, including hiring, supervising, training, developing, and evaluating direct reports.
  • Implement and continue improving a comprehensive recruitment plan that guides the efforts of the admissions staff as it raises visibility and strengthens Lawrence’s position in the marketplace.
  • In consultation with the Vice President and Dean of Admissions, manage the admission and scholarship review process for all first-time, first-year domestic applicants to Lawrence University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Meet with prospective students, their families, and their counselors throughout the country, on campus, and online.
  • Achieve enrollment goals by managing recruitment of assigned geographical territory and special populations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned according to talents and institutional needs.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Lawrence University’s Director of Recruitment must be a results-focused, energetic, creative leader who understands the importance of diversity, inclusion, care, empathy, ethics, and flexibility in a fast-paced college admissions environment.
  • The Director of Recruitment will lead their staff by example, which means being respectful, collaborative, sensitive, ethical, trustworthy, hard-working, detail-oriented, and others-focused.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate across numerous channels both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated cultural competencies to work with diverse populations of students and support diversity, inclusion, and access in student recruitment.
  • The recruitment director will be committed to serving Lawrence’s constituents with professionalism and integrity.
  • The recruitment director must understand, appreciate, and articulate the value, relevance, and benefits of a liberal arts education, especially one with a strong fine and performing arts component.
  • The director must demonstrate the ability to modulate voice, tone, and message according to the audience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Understanding of and commitment to working within the framework of the National Association for College Admission Counselor’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission.
  • EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
    • A tremendous work and team ethic.
    • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
    • Facility with data-driven decision-making is a plus, which means that the director must be able to have experience working with Slate or other CRMs.
    • Preferred candidates will have significant experience in college admission. Five to seven years is typically the norm.

    EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
    Must have successful completion of criminal record check, driving record check and reference checks.
