Director of Public Affairs


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • High proficiency in oral & written communications
  • Extensive journalism & public relations experience
  • Working knowledge of Alaska history and politics
  • Familiarity with appropriate laws, i.e., Open Meetings Act, Alaska Public Records Act, Freedom of Information Act.
  • Proficiency with a variety of digital platforms.
  • Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey a message.

Typical Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a writing or communications-related field with five or more years of progressively responsible experience in communicating to the public. Knowledge of higher education institutions. Working knowledge of Alaska history and politics.
Required Education or Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in a writing or communications-related field with five or more years of progressively responsible experience in communicating to the public. Experience coordinating large scale communication campaigns. A minimum of three years experience managing a team. Demonstrated success working with senior executive level clients and stakeholders. Master’s degree in a writing- or communications-related field preferred.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt senior administrator position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .

This position is designated as an officer of the university or senior administrator at the discretion of the president.
