Job Description:

The University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for a Director of Nursing Programs. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead the implementation and growth of newly desgined nursing programs. This position is a New York State fully-funded tenured 10-month faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level, with 12-month administrative responsibilities as Director of Nursing Programs. The position will begin as soon as possible, and no later than Fall 2023.

The University at Albany is establishing new nursing programs with an emphasis on population and community health, which will be housed in the School of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school with a robust partnership with the New York State Department of Health and well-established BS, MPH, DrPH, MS, and PhD degrees. These initial nursing programs include a BS Completion Program and a fully online MS in Population Health Nursing. A dynamic new Director of Nursing Programs is needed to provide the academic leadership to fully implement these programs, recruit diverse students and faculty, and provide vision for the eventual development of additional related programs.

The Director of Nursing Programs will be responsible for oversight and administration of all aspects of the nursing programs, including recruiting and supervising administrative staff and full-time and adjunct faculty; overseeing accreditation activities, program assessment, and evaluation; recruiting and enrolling a diverse student body; nurturing relationships with clinical and community-based organizations to support the clinical placement of students; and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.

Successful candidates are expected to engage in scholarly research related to nursing. The School of Public Health provides an active research environment with ongoing research in many areas complementary to nursing, including but not limited to health services research, health policy, behavioral sciences and community health, health disparities, maternal and child health, epidemiology, cancer research, and environmental health. In addition, the University at Albany is a Carnegie Foundation-designated publicly engaged university with signature strengths across campus in health equity and minority health disparities, mental health, emergency preparedness, climate science, and public affairs and policy, providing a rich interdisciplinary environment for health sciences research and collaboration.

The Director of Nursing Programs will also have teaching and advising responsibilities commensurate with a tenured faculty member with significant administrative responsibilities. Ordinarily, this will equate to one course per semester. In addition, the Director will mentor and advise BS and MS-level nursing students and actively engage in university and community service.
