Job Overview

The Director of Design expertly translates partner insights and general direction into design solutions for university campaign collateral, visual identity systems, magazines, signature events, and philanthropic digital campaigns. The Director of Design will play a key role in developing complex design products for the $3 billion university campaign and university visual identity implementation.

Work Interactions

The Director of Design reports to and receives guidance from Senior Director of Creative. The Director of Design works with Advancement internal partners, the university photographer, and collaborates with the digital channel strategy team, the UX+DEV team, editors, freelance photographers, printers, and writers. The director will also collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Creative on campaign work and university visual identity implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years independent design consulting and art direction
  • Design/communications degree and agency experience preferred
  • Effectively translate strategy into tactics and execute effectively
  • Sophisticated understanding of brand management, visual identity systems for print, environmental, and digital
  • Ability to seamlessly apply visual identity standards to high-profile products across university units
  • Expert understanding of $3 billion university campaign visual identity guidelines and ability to set the tone for first rate products developed for the campaign
  • Extensive experience independently designing magazines, from spreads to full-scale magazine layout
  • Excellent project management skills to work autonomously on complex creative projects
