Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) and Professor of Practice of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program will be responsible for developing relationships with clinical-based and community-based partners where DPT students complete their full-time clinical education courses. The DCE will oversee all aspects of the clinical education of the students including the development, coordination, and monitoring of clinical education experiences in compliance with the CAPTE standards. The DCE will also be involved in the assessment of the clinical education program. The DCE will report to the DPT Program Director. This position will be at the Assistant Professor of Practice Rank.
Additionally, the successful candidate will teach clinical methods courses or other courses specific to areas of contemporary competence. The DCE is expected to maintain a level of discipline expertise to teach at the graduate level and to complete scholarship, and departmental/college/university service activities.
Responsibilities Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
-Manage and supervise the clinical education coursework of the DPT students in accordance with the vision, strategic plan, and goals of the program and university.
-Maintain current knowledge of the standards of CAPTE pertaining to clinical education in the DPT program.
-Ensure clinical education in the DPT program meets the following requirements and/or duties:
1. The clinical education program reflects the sequence and scope of the content in the curriculum design in collaboration with faulty so that clinical education experiences strengthen the ties between didactic and clinical education portions of the curriculum.
2. Develop agreements with clinical education sites that reflect themes of the curricular design and realities of the healthcare environment affecting the program.
3. Clinical education agreements are sufficient in scope and number representing the breadth and depth of physical therapy practice to allow completion of graduation requirement in a timely manner in accordance with the policies adopted by the program as required by CAPTE.
4. Coordinate the clinical education process by selecting and developing clinical education sites, scheduling clinical education experiences, overseeing administrative requirements (i.e. clinical education contracts and student health records), submitting appropriate forms to CAPTE, fostering positive relations with the local healthcare community.
5. Ensure that students are participating in clinical education courses maintain documentation of current immunizations and other healthcare information according to the University and Program policies and individual site requirements.
6. Establish and maintain relationships with the on-site clinical educators. Provide training and support in order to enhance their student programs and develop clinical education experiences that align with the clinical education course learning objectives.
7. Provide consultation for students throughout the academic program regarding preparation for, selection, and completion of clinical education experiences.
8. Monitor quality of clinical education experiences and clinical instruction by clinical instructors through clinical education site visits and student evaluations of clinical education experiences.
9. Collaborate with the Program Director of the DPT program in the development and implementation of policies for the withdrawal of students from clinical education placement when necessary.
10. Collaborate with the Program Director of the DPT program in the preparation and submission of regular reports regarding the clinical education portion of the program to CAPTE, other regulatory agencies, and the Chief Executive Officer of the college, as required.
11. Teach courses in established area(s) of expertise.
12. Maintain expertise through scholarly activities (e.g. scholarship of teaching and learning), as defined by CAPTE.
13. Attend departmental meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other college meetings or events, as required.
14. Foster an educational environment that is supportive of the Lasallian Mission.
15. Provide outstanding customer service to all constituencies and partners of the program and university.
16. Perform other duties that do not interfere with the management and supervision of the clinical education program, as assigned by the Program Director of the DPT program.
Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will possess significant clinical, academic, and administrative experience. The preferred candidate will hold a DPT degree or DPT plus terminal degree. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a significant record of clinical experience and expertise, and be a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. The candidate must hold or be eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications Administrative experience; Previous teaching in higher education.
Essential Duties
Work hours Full time; Faculty position is 12-months payable over 12 months.
