Remuneration:$152,636 pa HEW Level 10A (plus 17% employer superannuation) and an annual incentive payment of up to a maximum of 10%, at the discretion of the University

Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies (M3CS) is a newly established University Centre, based within the School of Philosophical, Historical, and International Studies in the Faculty of Arts. It houses researchers working in philosophy and other humanities disciplines, together with researchers from medicine, psychology and neuroscience. The Centre’s primary goal is to produce high quality research and education that supports and builds knowledge, whilst engaging with communities, students and other stakeholders around consciousness research, mindfulness and contemplative studies. The Opportunity

This newly created role in the Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies will be responsible for overall leadership, management and strategy of the externally-facing activities and will be a key contributor to its financial sustainability and performance, aligned to strategic short-term and long-term objectives. The Director of Capability and Innovation is accountable for attracting high-level long-term commercial contracts and income streams; the director will establish, manage and grow a team developing and delivering a consulting suite of innovative products for the enterprise market. 

Reporting to the Director of the Centre this position will provide direct supervision to up to 5 staff and oversee a team of up to 8. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for: 

  • Take accountability for strategic planning and achievement of objectives and goals in capability and innovation for the Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies (M3CS) as a senior member of the management team
  • Initiate, lead and manage strong stakeholder partnerships externally with national and international collaborators and enterprises
  • Launch the Centre’s M3CS brand to market; increase brand awareness in the market; leveraging significant media connections to establish Centre profile and expertise
  • Establish a consulting suite of innovative products for the enterprise market, aimed at commercialisation in the most promising and active externally-facing areas of research and education activities; deliver products to market
  • Lead the Centre’s PR and Media presence including involvement in speaking engagements and media articles

About You

The successful applicant will have exceptional consulting, management and leadership skills with a proven ability to strategically manage, engage, influence and negotiate at senior levels within the industry, government and academic contexts, as well as extensive knowledge of academic and university organisations and operations, including a sound understanding of the interrelationships and responsibilities of university and faculty committees.
