Position Focus:

Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking a Director of Admissions to join the team in the Office of Enrollment. YSN, located on the beautiful grounds of Yale West Campus (WC), is conveniently located near major highways. The Director of Admissions would be an integral part of the team, managing the integrated delivery of recruitment and admissions functions for YSN degree programs while assisting with development of overall recruitment and admissions strategy. Reporting to the Associate Dean (AD) for Enrollment Management, the Director collaborates with the AD on recruitment and admissions goal setting, planning, and process development; ensures that specific tactics are executed in line with overall strategy; manages assigned projects from inception to execution; reports on admissions data and outcomes; and develops and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for ongoing evaluation and improvement. Primarily responsible for oversight of admissions business practices, operations and workflows, the Director ensures that daily activities in the YSN admissions office align with strategic recruitment goals; identifies and elevates potential problems impeding pursuit of those goals and offers data-driven suggestions for ongoing improvement.

  • Monitors daily YSN admissions activity for quality assurance and progress towards specific strategic goals.
  • Reports on daily activity in application processing and review, and addresses problems as needed / escalates to senior leadership when required.
  • Monitors inflow and outflow of communications with prospective and admitted students for quality assurance.
  • Assists with development of data-driven dashboards that allow for real-time monitoring of recruitment and admissions activity.
  • Monitors the execution of tactics supporting integrated, short- and long-range enrollment strategy, including recruitment, communications, admissions, and yield activities.
  • In conjunction with AD, develops and monitors annual budget in support of programmatic expenses and operating costs; assists with evaluation of ROI on specific tactics; makes recommendations for new proposed expenditures; and assists with budget proposal process.
  • Collaborates with leadership to evaluate and continuously improve admissions policies and processes, and leverage data and technology for optimal efficiency.
  • Develops and implements operational policies, procedures and training for admissions staff.
  • Serves as a key resource for admissions and financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices, new developments, and innovations in admissions strategies in graduate public health and higher education.
  • Assesses and refines communications with prospective students, including print materials, websites and emails used in communication campaigns.
  • Communicates directly with prospective students via email, phone, text, and/or in-person or virtual meetings to communicate the value proposition of a YSN degree.
  • Represents YSN to potential students at on-campus and off-campus recruitment events
  • Develops and cultivates positive relationships with students with the goal of promoting serious interest in YSN programs and to encourage a positive impression of YSN and all its offerings.
  • Encourages qualified students to apply to YSN to achieve school, geographic, and program-specific enrollment targets.
  • Leads development of annual recruitment activity plan and activity calendar.

Essential Duties

1. Develops a strategic plan to build a robust recruitment program that will take both selectivity and yield into account. 2. Coordinates all recruitment efforts internationally, nationally, and locally. 3. Implements marketing strategies to assist in building an applicant pool and in raising the yield percentage. The strategies should incorporate advertising through digital venues–including social networks–and partnerships with organizations like the Alumni Association, but be open to new and creative venues. 4. Oversees all admissions processes including admission applications, the admissions decision-making process, correspondence, special events, and decision notification. 5. Oversees financial aid application and award procedures, including making a special effort to reduce student indebtedness through appropriate financial counseling. 6. Develops special strategies to increase diversity among students in all three degree programs. 7. Develops and leads international recruiting strategies and events. Collaborates with the University Offices and other units to create a sustainable international recruiting network. 8. Supervises and develops the staff. 9. Cultivates ways to partner with other individuals or units to increase the efficiency and effectiveness. 10. Develops and manages the annual budget. 11. Represents the Office at the Dean’s Leadership Committee, providing advice and suggestions for the advancement of the School as a whole. 12. Develops a series of metrics to measure the effectiveness of the Office and maintains all relevant data for the evaluation of the Office. 13. Represents the School at University and national meetings dealing with admissions or financial aid. 14. Works collaboratively with other units in the School and University. 15. May perform other duties assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and five years of related work experience in admissions, registrar, placement, financial aid or student counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Familiarity or experience with graduate education Admissions and financial aid standards, polices and/or procedures.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Facility with office tools including data tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau, R, Stata, etc), Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems, student information systems and/or other technologies that support the Admissions enterprise.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong data fluency, including ability to manipulate complex datasets and produce graphical representation of information and data (visualization).

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Outstanding public speaking, presentation and writing skills.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience with Slate CRM and/or Liaison-based common application system (CAS) is desirable. Relevant master’s degree preferred, although not required. 6+ Admissions experience in a graduate or professional school; experience at a school or program of Nursing is ideal but not expected. Valid driver’s license preferable.
