The Department of Biomedical Engineering has a mission to develop clinically translatable solutions for human health by training the next generation of biomedical engineers, cultivating leaders, and nurturing the integration of science, engineering, and medicine in a discovery-centered environment. Our faculty includes members of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Inventors, and the National Academy of Medicine. Purpose
Develop, implement, and oversee administrative and business operations and staff for the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities
Direct and manage all business, financial, HR, and administrative functions.
Assist Department Chair with operational, tactical, and strategic planning for a developing unit. Identify operational needs; design and implement systems for improved administrative productivity and efficiency.
Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff to ensure a high level of support for Department. Provide professional development and growth opportunities for staff. Coordinate yearly staff evaluation process, and make merit and equity recommendations.
Human Resources management for the department, in compliance with relevant policies. HR/Academic Partner, Cost Center Manager, I-9 Partner, and Timekeeper in Workday. Process faculty and staff assignments and onboarding. Oversee graduate student and visiting scholar/affiliate hiring and onboarding.
Act as department resource for University, College, and Departmental policies, particularly Faculty and Staff Affairs. Manage Electronic Office (EOM) and Organizational Hierarchy System (OHS).
Oversee operating and instructional budget for staff, faculty, student employee, state funds, and prepare or oversee preparation of financial reporting including gifts and endowments.
Execute or coordinate Faculty Affairs processes including leaves, appointments, summer assignments, reviews (Annual, Post Tenure, 3rd Year), promotion & tenure, new faculty appointments (PAR and Appointment Preparation)
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and progressively responsible experience managing administrative operations.
Understanding and ability to converse thoughtfully and intelligently about business and administrative operations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals at all levels of an organization.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Professional demeanor.
Excellent relationship-building skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
10 years or more of managerial experience.
Relevant professional experience in managing academic and administrative units serving a diverse student, faculty, and staff population, with a track record of leading strategic restructuring of administrative functions, and developing/implementing strategic plans.
Experience working in a STEM environment, ideally with a substantial research operation.
Experience working with faculty, staff, and students in an academic environment.
Salary Range
$85,500+ depending on qualifications
