Summary 
Manages and supports operations for technology support to academic systems, programs, classrooms, and instructional labs. Manages planning, design, and updating of technology systems, applications, and data. Ensures adequate response to computer user requests for technical support with standard and custom applications used in academic environments.
Distinguishing Career Features
The Director, IT Academic and Administrative Support plans and integrates information technology services for academic and related business and student services. The position manages and guides centralized services which ensure academic and multimedia programming offers continuous operations through a team of subordinate supervisors, professional, technical and support staff. The Director requires the ability to integrate academic and business technologies for seamless use in office, classroom, and lab environments, ensuring the security and integrity of data and consistency in computer software applications. The Director requires the ability to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends to offer seamless services, respond to urgent issues and outages, and support upgrades. The Director will collaborate with faculty and administration to define existing and new projects, outline priorities, and set services expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following types of duties, as assigned:
1. Defines academic technology needs by working and collaborating with faculty and administration. Defines and integrates the systems, administrative and course-specific applications and networks for data sharing and access.
2. Establishes goals and schedules for projects, including budgets, IT staffing, and time requirements for participating end-users. Prepares progress reports on a regular basis.
3. Participates with peers to analysis and determine the protocols, policies, and procedures that impact instructional computing and blend with administrative systems.
4. Manages user-support operations, ensuring all calls with questions and problems associated with use of basic-to-advanced personal computer software, input and output of documents, access to courseware, data transmission, internet, and I/O to and from computer hardware are handled in a timely manner.
5. Ensures effective staffing, resource utilization, and needs assessment of projects and balancing the workload of staff.
6. Provide strategic leadership in the development of road maps and long-term plans that align with the mission, vision and goals of the District.
7. Participate in the project planning sessions for new building construction or renovations. Process and track all IT related RFI’s, Submittals, and related consultant review and responses including preparing and maintaining project logs.
8. Oversees inspection, repair, upgrade, and maintenance of multimedia capacity so that it provides faculty and administration with state-of-the-art image and audio delivery.
9. Directs and maintains a system for documenting help desk calls. Ensures compilation of lists of questions and solutions to computer and software related problems, indexed in such a way that it facilitates consistent response by technicians and users.
10. Plans and manages a comprehensive portfolio of computer applications, systems, and resources encompassing information and instructional technology, and user technical support.
11. Oversees evaluations of, and capacity improvements to academic computer hardware and software performance.
12. Develops, implements, sets performance targets around standards of service supporting both district and campus needs. Trains and schedules IT support staff responsible for addressing inquiries from academic staff and students.
13. Researches, develops, and administers budgets for academic computing and administrative support. Receives input, prioritizes, and controls approval and processing of expenditures.
14. Evaluates emerging technologies that could enhance quality and scope of services. Participates and leads meetings, presentations, and staff development/conferences to assure up-to-date skills and knowledge of trends among staff.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
16. Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 – code of Professional Ethics. 

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Knowledge and Skills
1. The position professional specialization and knowledge of computer applications, operating systems, hardware, telecommunications, network systems, and security.
2. Requires specialized knowledge of network infrastructure, systems management, relational database systems for data storage and reporting, and internet services.
3. The position requires advanced, progressive, in-depth knowledge of program development and upgrade techniques, procedures, tools, and documentation standards.
4. Requires advanced knowledge of computer workstations, remote software distribution, multimedia and data communications concepts, methods, and techniques.
5. Requires working knowledge of the features and characteristics of a variety of software such as but not limited to courseware, student services, office productivity, graphics, help desk software, and utilities.
6. Requires in-depth knowledge of multimedia and computer equipment, and operating systems.
7. Requires in-depth knowledge of organizing and providing a hierarchical user-support troubleshooting function.
8. Requires well-developed writing skills to prepare reports, and document and convey technical concepts in easy-to-learn formats.
9. Requires advanced human relations skills to make formal presentations, influence others, facilitate group processes, conduct training, provide technical consultation, and determine department needs or problems.

6. Requires the ability to analyze data and situations and reason logically and creatively to identify alternative solutions to problems.
7. Requires the ability to respond to and resolve high level user problems and requests on a timely basis.
8. Requires the ability to read, understand, and apply information from professional literature and technical manuals.
9. Requires the ability to train staff in effective steps for documenting, troubleshooting, and solving workstation (personal computer and software), applications, and networking (data communication and remote software access) problems and solutions.
10. Requires the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff of faculty, administration, staff, and students and to lead, facilitate, and participate in a variety of managerial and technical work activities.
11. Requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Abilities
1. The general physical demands, working conditions, and essential job functions associated with this classification will be kept on file with the Office of Human Resources.

Education and Experience  
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information/educational technology or related field and five years of experience in user support, instructional technology planning, and applications management, including two years of project management. Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for the position.

Conditions of Employment

This is an IN-HOUSE ONLY – permanent, general-funded, full-time, 12-months per year classified position.  The normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and/or weekends, if necessary, to meet the needs of the department.  The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.  The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.

Pay Philosophy:

Selection Procedure

Based on this rating, a number of candidates will be recommended to move forward and will be invited for a second-level interview.
The hiring manager will conduct reference checks on the final candidate. The district reserves the right to contact the current or most recent employer and to investigate past employment records of applicants selected for interviews.
The campus President will make the final recommendation for employment to the Board of Trustees.
The start date will be determined based on the needs of the campus and the conditions of employment as posted in the job announcement/recruitment.
