Director International Programs & Partnerships

Reporting to the VP, Operations, the Director, International Programs and Partnerships (IPP) provides leadership to Save the Children Canada’s (SCC) International Programs and is overall responsible for the strategic and operational development and implementation of SCC’s international programming portfolio and related strategic initiatives. The Director, IPP will collaborate with senior management colleagues across the organization to identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in processes. They will take a creative approach to overcoming challenges in support of SCC’s strategy. Additionally, this role will proactively cultivate strategic partnerships within the SCI/A movement and externally across Canada’s  international development sector.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to:

  • International Program Leadership and Strategy
  • Develop, implement and continuously refine the IPP strategy and plans in alignment with SCC’s organizational ambition, strategic goals and objectives
  • Lead the articulation of the IPP ambition, and its impact within SCC’s organizational identity and narrative
  • Monitor the implementation of the IPP strategy using results-based performance metrics, ensuring timely adjustments are made as needed
  • Strategically allocate and manage resources across the department to effectively and efficiently deliver on organizational and departmental strategies and plans, including the revenue growth strategy

Strategic Partnerships and Relationship Management :

  • Develop and maintain partnerships that enhance SCC’s value as a Member organization within the federated model and pursuit of localization
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key Save the Children Members and Save the Children International (SCI) Centre, and Regional and Country Directors to proactively develop and execute on opportunities for shared impact
  • Oversee the development, execution and maintenance of institutional account strategies, plans and targets, including as relevant donor engagement strategies (e.g. Global Affairs Canada)
  • Collaborate with Resource Development team to pursue strategic partnerships with the private sector
  • Strengthen existing program partnerships within our sector in Canada and cultivate new, non-traditional program partnership to respond to emerging trends

International Program Portfolio Management  :

  • Ensure IPP portfolio aligns with SCC’s ambition, strategic goals while strengthening its articulation through evidence-based insights
  • Drive revenue growth within the portfolio with institutional donors in order to achieve SCC’s strategy and closely collaborate with the Resource Development Department to build strategic partnerships with non-institutional donors
  • Lead the analysis of systems and procedures across the International Program portfolio management and implement improvements for increased efficiency
  • Oversee the execution of the IP portfolio targets, including achievement of impact, reach and budget on active, pipeline and overlay awards

People Management:

  • Lead the International Programs & Partnerships department, inclusive of Award Management, Program Quality & Impact, and Humanitarian Affairs providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance management while ensuring alignment with organizational values and policies
  • Set clear team and individual performance expectations for productivity, quality, and success; providing direction and support as needed
  • Oversee budget management, recruitment, and career development while ensuring compliance, fostering a values-driven culture, and maintaining a safe, inclusive workplace.
  • Ensure transparent communication on strategy and policies, uphold SCC’s Code of Conduct, policies, health and safety standards, integrates Child Safeguarding practices, and models professional and ethical behavior

Qualifications include (but are not limited to:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in International Development, International Relations or relevant field; post-graduate degree is an asset
  • 7-10 years of experience in International Development, preferably with experience working in countries of operation
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory/managerial role
  • Strong leadership, team building capabilities with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence
  • Strategic big picture thinker, with the ability to translate vision and strategy into actionable plans and measurable results
  • Ability to apply discretional tact, judgement and make sound decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to organizational policies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to refine processes and enhance efficiency and impact
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, bringing together teams from across the organization to work collaboratively
  • Strong emotional intelligence and negotiation skills to engage with diverse perspectives while maintaining positive and respectful relationships
  • Ability to travel internationally occasionally as required
