Job Description

DIRECTOR, INITIATIVE ON THE DIGITAL ECONOMY (IDE), Sloan School of Management, to be responsible for generating revenue and developing and implementing strategies to raise funds primarily from individuals, but also in support of corporations, private foundations, and government grant programs that allow for significantly growing the annual budget. Annual initial target revenue will be $2M and increasing to $5M from annual prospects ($25k+ and major gifts ($250k+). Will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of stakeholders (there are currently 2,000 prospects in the pool of potential donors and the goal is to manage those prospects through the fundraising pipeline and further increase the pool); work closely with Sloan’s Office of External Relations, MIT’s Resource Development, and MIT Foundation Relations; partner with MIT’s Research Administrative Services, recording secretary, and general counsel to negotiate and manage agreements; and support the executive director and faculty leadership in setting IDE strategy and direction.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five years’ front-line major gifts fundraising experience; excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, event planning, and organizational skills; ability to multitask, solve problems on the fly, and work independently; ability to collaborate with the IDE team, other MIT partners, and external stakeholders; general knowledge of technology and business and an interest in being at the cutting edge of understanding how technology impacts business, the economy, and society; desire to work in a fast-growing, dynamic environment; and comfort leading and being a member of a group with an all-hands-on-deck approach. PREFERRED: MBA; five years’ experience working with high-net-worth individuals and senior executives; and familiarity with academic research in economics, information technology, and management. Salary range: $112,980 – 151,180 – 189,180, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity. Generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
