Director for Inclusion, Belonging and Intergroup Communication

Stanford University has an immediate opening for the Director for Inclusion, Belonging and Intergroup Communication (IBIC) to provide strategy, vision and direction regarding diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) objectives impacting students as part of the division of student affairs.  We seek candidates who can support the vision, mission and values of the Division of Student Affairs , and support Our Most Important Work .

In this role you will liaise with senior management and cross-functional areas and work with critical stakeholders across campus to implement IBIC’s vision and strategy. We are looking for someone who will collaborate, engage, and support the development and  delivery of DIBE education for students, staff and faculty, with a focus on creating and sustaining impactful DIBE engagements  across campus.  This role will serve as a key campus leader helping to advance intersectional racial and social justice.  This position will manage and develop four full-time staff and report to the Assistant Vice Provost for the Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership.

Core duties:
Leading the IBIC Team

• Hire, develop and manage professional staff. Promote and support an environment of collaboration, dedication and continuous learning across the IBIC team.
• Devise an adaptive strategic vision for the office with a renewed focus on supporting students and student affairs staff. Ensure operational clarity and alignment.
• Oversee the work of the office such that processes and outcomes align with the IBIC Office Mission as well as VPSA’s Our Most Important Work priorities.

Programming, Projects and Initiatives

• Create a suite of capacity-building opportunities offered at regular times during the year focused on integrative learning opportunities for students
• Design and manage diversity education programs offered to students and staff. This includes overseeing: the development, marketing and delivery of these programs, and collaborating with faculty and co-teaching intergroup communication courses.
• Partner with VPSA HR to offer a DIBE orientation for new Student Affairs staff.
• Manage strategic projects, aligned with campus and divisional DIBE priorities.
• Proactively develop and implement policies, plans, programs and activities that both educate and promote DIBE as core values of the institution.
• Develop long range planning and  policy development for the department, including forecasting, planning, and managing the IBIC budget.
• Lead university- or division-wide initiatives and campaigns.

Division and University-level Responsibilities

• Serve as advisor to Assistant Vice Provost on programmatic and policy development.
• Represent Student Affairs, ICIL and department programs and initiatives at senior level  meetings, conferences, and to both internal and external constituents.
• Assist senior leadership with the design of experiences and systems to ensure that  students have equitable access to opportunity and engage students, faculty and staff in  critical thinking and practice around identity, diversity and inclusiveness.
• Support university wide efforts to welcome students to campus, including New Student Orientation, by providing impactful DIBE programming and training.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant  experience. Master’s degree and experience in higher education/student affairs setting preferred.

• A deep understanding of and expertise in the issues of race, sexuality, gender, disability,  indigeneity, class, intersectionality and the dynamics of difference, privilege and power.
• Demonstrated experience with and deep commitment to providing quality programming to  students, faculty and staff representing diverse identities.
• The ability and willingness to engage with people with varying experience and knowledge of DIBE concepts and practices.
• Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal  and external audiences, client groups and all levels of management.
• The ability to establish credibility and collaborate and work effectively with leaders of other offices across a complex university structure to develop an excellent student residential experience.
• Strong leadership, organizational and strategic planning/management skills.
• Demonstrated experience managing a team.
• Demonstrated experience with significant and complex budgetary/financial management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
• The university requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination prior to their start date, unless granted a medical or religious accommodation.
• This position is designated as hybrid, working onsite a minimum of 3 days per week.
