Your opportunity:

The Director, Faculty Governance and Curriculum Services provides leadership at a faculty-wide level for the administration and organization of Governance and Curriculum Services of the Faculty of Arts and Science. They also provide support for the division in the context of Institutional Governance. In collaboration with academic leadership, the Director leads the development and interpretation of academic policies and regulations, especially regarding academic integrity, petitions, faculty council and academic appeals, facilitation and coordination of admission and curriculum decisions, elections, management of quasi-judicial bodies (petitions and appeals), and publication of the academic calendar.

The Director carries out the duties of Faculty Secretary, as set out in the Constitution and By-laws, through their leadership of the Faculty Governance unit. They provide leadership to the Faculty Governance unit which includes three sub-units, including Student Academic Integrity (SAI), Petitions, and Governance. The SAI and Petitions units handle a high volume of academic integrity and petitions case management, while the governance unit facilitates the academic change process for the Faculty, and conducts the business of Faculty Council.

The Director will provide highly nuanced oversight to the development of research, policy analysis, and records management functions for the Faculty, ensuring strict confidentiality. The Director liaises with members across the Faculty and within the University of Toronto’s central administrative teams to fulfill these activities.

Please note this is a one year term position.

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

University degree; advanced degree an asset or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) years recent and relevant experience in public administration in a university environment, and demonstrated leadership experience, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience. Direct experience with governance committee work. Knowledge and understanding of University governance processes. Familiarity with University structures, Faculty priorities, governance procedures, and University policies and procedures. Training or experience with parliamentary procedure is an asset; direct experience in serving as secretary to a governance body preferred. Familiarity with administrative tribunals, the principles of administrative law, and natural justice an asset.

SKILLS:

Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint,and various scheduling software products. Knowledge of file sharing software (e.g. Sharepoint) is an asset.

OTHER:

Proven track record in meeting critical deadlines under pressure. Excellent command of the English language with effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to record, report, and interpret the results of complex proceedings. Ability to make effective representation in support of one’s position on an issue and to respond to criticism in a fast-paced environment.
