The Director of Event Management and Championships is responsible for the planning and execution of assigned home athletic events and postseason events. This position will work closely with assigned sports and athletics staff to ensure appropriate execution of events. This position will oversee all scheduling for athletic facilities including, but not limited to home athletic events, practices, outside events, facility rentals and meetings. This position also includes budget control responsibilities, works closely with athletic and university facilities and operations personnel and have direct supervision of the Events, Operations and Facilities Associate position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for game day operations of women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, baseball and other sports as assigned.

  • Responsible for the scheduling of all athletic facilities for practices, games, outside events, facility rentals and meeting spaces.

  • Responsible for the submission of bids to host ACC and NCAA postseason events for assigned sports and serve as tournament director if selected to host.

  • Responsible for coordinating and working with the athletic facilities and operations staff to ensure all athletic venues are ready for competition including setup and breakdown.

  • Manage game operations and postseason budgets for assigned sports.

  • Administers and coordinates the schedule and rental of all athletic facilities. Have an understanding of software for event scheduling. Responsible for all rental contracts with third parties and university departments and preparing invoices.

  • Coordinate the hiring, scheduling and training of game day staff including, but not limited to, DVSport Replay Technician, scoreboard operators, game clock operators and shot clock operators.

  • Work directly with BEST Security, University of Miami PD, Coral Gables PD, University of Miami Parking and Transportation and other outside agencies to ensure assigned athletic event and facility rentals are properly staffed.

  • Assist with stadium management and game day operations for home football games at Hard Rock Stadium.

  • Assist with day-to-day facility and operations tasks as needed.

  • Assists with emergency management preparation and post recovery operations.

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with NCAA, ACC, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director and/or Associate Athletic Director, Event Management and Championships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work under pressure and under tight deadlines with limited resources and multiple competing priorities

  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well with others

  • Solid computer skills

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Preferred

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • 3-5 years of experience
