Director (East Asian Institute)



Job Description

NUS seeks to hire an outstanding scholar or practitioner in any area of the humanities and social sciences for appointment as director of EAI, starting January 2023, for an initial term of three years.

The director is appointed by the Deputy President (Research and Technology) and will work in consultation with the Institute’s advisory and management boards to provide leadership in the following areas:   

  • Develop new areas of research excellence spanning the various faculties and schools in NUS
  • Develop innovative processes and sound policies to make the Institute the hallmark of excellence
  • Foster strong collaborative relations with other departments in the broader ecosystem

Qualifications

The director should preferably be a PhD holder who is an internationally-recognized leader in his or her academic field. The director also needs to have familiarity and experience with regard to China initiatives, and preferably be well-networked with the academic and policy-making communities in China and the East Asian region. The appointment of director is a full-time position with generous support for work which advances the mission of the Institute.
