Position Title DIRECTOR/ASSESSMENT & CURRICULUM
Position Summary Primary responsibility is to facilitate and coordinate the university’s program-level assessment activities (e.g., support, deans, department chairs, faculty, and the Assessment Council) with the implementation of the Policy on Student Learning Outcomes Assessment and other assessment-related information to the campus community. Work closely with faculty leaders and academic administrators to establish effective policies and procedures relative to assessment process development. Promote an environment that supports student-focused learning, a culture of evidence and continuous improvement, and the use of assessment data for program improvement accreditation and overall program alignment. Manage and supervise the staff and functions associated with the university bulletins and coordination of curricular activities and provide guidance to these staff as they support curriculum committees during the curriculum approval process. Required Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution.
Three years of experience in an academic administration or highly related position.
A thorough understanding of, and experience with, assessment and curricular processes in higher education.
Experience working with assessment and/or curriculum databases and software programs.
Experience managing multi-stage, complex tasks effectively, including attention to detail, organization, timeliness, and follow-through.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Doctorate degree from an accredited higher education institution in an area relevant discipline.
Experience working with national, state, and/or regional accrediting bodies.
Leadership in professional organizations addressing student learning and/or outcomes assessment.
Record of scholarship in the areas of curriculum and assessment.
Supervisory experience.
Duties & Responsibilities Facilitates and coordinates the university’s assessment activities.
Provides leadership for and assists faculty and staff with the development of meaningful and sustainable program assessment plans.
Reviews funding requests and provides expenditure recommendations to the Outcomes Assessment budget.
Serves as administrative liaison for the University’s Senate-Appointed Assessment Council to support the coordination and expeditious review and feedback on program assessment plans and annual assessment reports.
Advises faculty and academic administrators on the development and/or modification of academic programs so that best practices in assessment and curricular development are followed.
Supervises, guides, and supports staff overseeing the university’s curricular processes.
Contributes to the advancement, measurement, and communication of quality indicators in support of student-focused learning, general education, academic quality, and other aspects of institutional quality.
Coordinates the quarterly review of program proposals submitted to the Academic Officers of the State Universities of Michigan. Communicates program submission and review feedback from department chairs and deans relative to programs being proposed by other universities; prepares material Provost uses in his/her statewide academic vice president’s meetings.
Represents the Academic division on relevant committees as assigned by the CIS Executive Director, Provost as needed, and requested by others.
Provides information as appropriate to the CIS Executive Director, and Provost as needed, on important issues associated with the above responsibilities.
Supports the development, review and use of the assessment management system (AMS) and curricular process system.
Performs other duties as assigned.
