Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President within Student Business Services, the Director position is responsible for the planning, development and management of the student account billing system and tuition and fee assessment process. The Director will also oversee various system integrations, provide query development support and oversee the Student Business Service staff supporting these functions. This position will represent Student Business Services and collaborate with other ASU departments to develop and implement strategies to accomplish University initiatives. Due to the critical role of Student Business Services in executing University projects, a candidate with complex ERP systems along with accounting experience is also preferred.

The successful candidate will be paid a signing bonus of $750 and a $1,250 bonus after completing six months of employment with the department.

Essential Duties
- Collaborates with other university departments to routinely test and manage system integrations necessary for business processes.
- Oversees the design, testing and implementation of student account system upgrades and programming to accommodate complex tuition and fee structure needs including the supervision of the Student Business Services staff supporting this function.
- Assist students, parents, office staff, and other student services departments with research and analysis of student accounts and makes decisions to resolve complex student account problems or discrepancies.
- Leads and coordinates efforts with the Student Business Services team to ensure that business systems work in an efficient, accurate and compliant manner.
- Develops a firm understanding of Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) and University tuition and fee approval process and policies to implement rates and fees accurately.
- Ensures the reporting needs of ASU colleges and departments are considered while proactively identifying opportunities to improve business processes, and communicate subsequent changes.
- Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals and projects and provides timelines and routine updates to Assistant Vice President to ensure these projects and goals remain on schedule to meet required deadlines.
- Prepares summarized executive level reports utilizing university data warehouses, including financial analysis, after researching complex issues.
- Manages and supervises professional business staff who are responsible for supervision of employees including hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, etc.
- Obtains a comprehensive knowledge of the relationship between the University’s accounting system, central and departmental systems, and the University’s audited financial report.
- May act in place of the Assistant Vice President in that person’s absence.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field and eight (8) years of experience in professional accounting, including five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Workday Accounting system or another on-line accounting systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Peoplesoft or other similar student information systems in both a functional and/or technical capacity.
- Experience in preparing detailed and complex reports utilizing data warehouse/storage and retrieval systems such as Microsoft Access or other query software.
- Experience in supervising professional business staff responsible for complex projects and critical deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the higher education industry and the Arizona Education Code related to student financial services.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Experience in leadership role preferably at a college or university setting.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
- Stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Clearly communicate in person, over the phone and through email to perform essential functions.
