Digital Strategy

Primary Purpose:

The Manager, Digital Strategy (ICT) will lead a dynamic team responsible for supporting web content management, web systems, analytics, user research, and design across digital channels and provide technical expertise and guidance on business solutions to help support digital records management.  This position plays a key role in the development and delivery of USask’s digital services, and identifies and establishes processes and technology for effective service delivery and support with an emphasis on user experience and brand development.  

Nature of Work: 

Reporting to the Director, Digital Strategy, the Manager, Digital Strategy (ICT), will leverage a strong background in business analysis, project management and communications to effectively manage the team and deliver services. In this role, needs of colleges and administrative units will be identified and investigated, and effective systems and solutions will be procured or developed to address these university needs, with preference to utilizing central IT services and to providing university-wide services.  Work is done in the context of enterprise architecture, DevOps methodology, brand standards and data governance frameworks. This position is responsible for identifying talent needs, providing development opportunities and ensuring effective allocation of the resources available.

Accountabilities:

Decision Making

  • Responsible for budget, people resources, and strategic decisions in line with operational and strategic plans for their area.
  • Directs and implements policies, processes and procedures for their area, and related business decisions and recommendations.

Stakeholder Service Delivery

  • Manages collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Manages strong relationships with external stakeholders to identify organizational opportunities.
  • Works closely with stakeholders and Digital Strategy team to develop effective plans and change management strategies to improve business capability and projects.
  • Organizes and leads meetings with stakeholders and vendors as needed, and manages actions arising from them.

Problem Solving

  • Understanding of the business goals of Digital Strategy so we can leverage their intended purpose to the fullest avoiding shadow systems and duplication of information
  • Elevate content delivery by surfacing through channels and/or systems so it can be most effective at engaging customers, automating business processes and enhancing collaboration.
  • Ability to keep a strategic focus when executing on client requests, looking for common issues so one solution can be applied in multiple cases
  • Proactively oversees and executes collaborative and cross-functional solutions to issues identified for their area with medium risk and medium potential organization wide impact.
  • Uses critical management analysis skills to identify issues and collaborative opportunities to enable the unit and the university to meet its goals.
  • Makes critical recommendations on new ideas and approaches to issues and opportunities in area of responsibility.

Leadership & Development

  • Provides all aspects of leadership to the web systems team.
  • Contributes and leads development of body of knowledge in area of responsibility.
  • Identifies key opportunities to develop individuals that will enhance and align their skills and abilities to meet the organizational goals.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with other ICT managers.

Key Activities   

  • Provides daily consultation, guidance and support, acting as escalation instance and options development support.
  • Ensures service delivery is consistent and integrated across the portfolio.
  • Defines monthly/weekly/daily goals and targets for teams ensuring alignment to university, Vice President, Finance & Resources, and University Relations.
  • Develops and recommends changes to policy and procedures to streamline resource utilization and improve service quality.
  • Communicates, presents information, and respond to stakeholders in an intelligent, clear, concise, professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Identifies key talent, creating an environment where talent can develop and deliver high value add services to clients.
  • Manages a service portfolio through its lifecycle, which includes planning for new offerings, production utilization, changes, and retirement.
  • Supports Directors and Associate Vice-Presidents in defining functional focus and goals.

Qualifications  

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Management and leadership experience within a complex organization.
  • A strong background in business analysis, user experience, project management, and communications.
  • Experience with and business knowledge of technologies currently used is service delivery, including Cascade, SharePoint, PAWS Portal, Atlassian products, social media platforms, advertising products (ex. search, social, display), and CRM systems (Ellucian & Blackbaud) is an asset.
  • Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment with the ability to work effectively in informal and formal teams with people from diverse communities, cultures, and perspectives.
  • Proven ability to develop exceptional rapport with staff and stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of the University and/or higher education.

The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $81,037.00 – 134,978.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
