Position Summary:
McGill University is seeking a Support Specialist to take part in the Digital Research Services (DRS) Team operations. The position is based in the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation (VP-RI) and reports to the Director, Research Software. The incumbent will join the DRS Team in guiding and supporting McGill researchers on matters related to Research Data Management, Research Software and Research Computing, in close collaboration with other units within McGill (e.g., McGill IT Services, Library, faculties) and external partners such as Calcul Québec and The Digital Research Alliance of Canada . The Support Analyst is a team-oriented role that will be tasked to provide first line helpdesk support to researchers, document, organize and improve support processes, participate in consultations with research groups, take part in open support sessions with the research community, update and publish content on the DRS website and other platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with colleagues from the Digital Research Services Hub, provide expertise and advice to McGill researchers on aspects of Digital Research funding and implementation.
  • Working with the Senior Advisor, Research Data Management, ensure the delivery of high-quality research support services to the McGill community.
  • Respond to questions from researchers about research data management, for example via the DRS helpdesk but also through other mechanisms. If needed, coordinate escalation and tracking of DRS helpdesk questions to ensure proper resolution.
  • Organize consultations with research groups, analyze their needs and help them identify and access the appropriate technologies, training and services for their research programs.
  • Participate in and coordinate DRS Hub activities, including but not limited to reviewing Data Management Plans.
  • Facilitate DRS team activities related to the McGill Institutional Research Data Management Strategy .
  • Analyse, document and enhance DRS support materials.
  • Participate in DRS meetings and contribute to the development of new services and initiatives.
  • Prepare reporting materials on DRS Team activities.
  • Additional duties as required.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience in supporting or participating in academic projects involving research data management.

Familiar with digital technologies, research software and IT infrastructure. Flexible and fast learner.

Strong collaborative team-player and demonstrated ability to work autonomously.  Excellent communication skills, oral and written. Capacity to engage with researchers and colleagues working in a broad range of domains and specialties. Knowledge of the Canadian research environment in higher education. Ability to establish positive working relationships with a range of individuals within and outside the unit. Strong organizational and execution skills. Ability to work in a multi-stakeholder, complex environment. Demonstrated ability to show initiative and good judgement. English and French, spoken and written. Comfortable in a hybrid work model.

Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:

(MPEX Grade 05) $65,500.00 – $81,870.00 – $98,240.00
