Digital Media Producer

Job Summary

The UCSF Office of Communications invites you to join our newly created, interactive experience team as a critical member of Brand Strategy as a creative digital media producer. You will enhance UCSF’s world-class brand and shape the next chapter of UCSF’s communications as the primary user experience lead and content producer for a new digital platform with a specialized focus on news and information targeted to the internal community of UCSF.  

You are a tech-savvy, seasoned digital communications professional, who will be working closely in partnership with the newly formed Internal Communications unit, IT Services, and other collaborators and communicators across UCSF.  You are excited to create immediate impact designing interactive experiences, producing creative content, and measuring outcomes and refining based on data analytics.  

Your designs and implementations will help ensure that critical messages and important service communications are successfully developed and targeted to reach UCSF’s diverse internal audiences including healthcare providers, researchers, educators, learners, and staff while monitoring messaging impact and continually improving search performance.  

Your good judgement, sharp analytical skills, and strategic, solutions-oriented mindset will help you to advocate for industry best practices around accessibility, security, SEO and design when driving organizational recommendations. 

You approach content production through cross-functional collaboration using an audience-focused lense leaning towards metric-driven decision-making.

With more than 30K employees and learners, UCSF has a critical need for a robust, centralized internal communications platform to promote consistent messaging, positive engagement, data security and compliance that helps drive innovation and productivity by solving research, health, and academic challenges. Importantly, this new integrated internal communications platform will help build community through storytelling that features the diverse voices of UCSF. This communications role will be critical in creating experiences that bring those voices to life, helping the organization to securely and impactfully share information.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and digitally produce user experiences and brand expressions to advance the overall look and feel of content focused on internal digital channels
  • Collaborate with stake holders to gather needs and requirements helping to steer their vision towards best practices and measure results
  • Partner with Internal Communications unit to understand their mission, achieve shared goals and positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with and guide colleagues charged with building a brand experience for UCSF’s internal audiences.
  • Identify and manage relationships and budgets around vendor (internal and external) workloads.
  • Manage full lifecycles of projects and tasks from conception through launch and maintenance either directly or through outsourced options.
  • Promote quality, usability and accessibility.
  • Conducting QA testing of web and technical development work.
  • Help to reinforce the growth of a data-driven, decision-making culture

Required experience also includes a working history with Drupal or other CMS, engaging user-centric design, user research, and comfort with analytics reporting.

Reporting to the Director of Interactive Strategy and Experience, you will play a key role in responding to UCSF Internal Communications team’s needs as their primary digital publishing source and will be cross trained to perform multiple responsibilities that enable the missions of the Office of Communications department to be carried out in a professional and timely manner.

Department Description

As UCSF’s enterprise communications team, the Office of Communications (OOC) provides comprehensive and coordinated leadership in planning, creating and implementing integrated strategies across all media to foster increased awareness and support of UCSF’s mission, vision, accomplishments and strategic priorities among its many internal and external constituencies. It serves as the official voice of UCSF to regional, state, national and international news media. Amid a significant expansion, the OOC is adding new capabilities and staff in order to better serve the growing needs of UCSF’s mission and strategic initiatives.

UCSF’s Brand Strategy unit defines, drives and promotes UCSF’s brand platform, brand family and story to be meaningful, differentiated and salient. It creates and shapes content to deliver experiences consistent with UCSF’s brand promise. It cultivates new audiences, fostering and deepening engagement to promote preference. And it leads enterprise alignment and orchestration, governance and best practices at the enterprise brand level.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area  and 3 or more years of related work experience; and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3+ years knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
  • 2+ years establishing strong understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • 3+ years working with a content management systems, light HTML and JavaScript and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
  • 3+ years building skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization’s message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
  • Thorough interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience establishing and working with organization’s processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
  • 3+ years developing technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
