About the Department
With a strong tradition of cross-disciplinary practices, intricately mixed with intellectual curiosity and creative energy, the University of Chicago fosters a bustling arts community on Chicago’s South Side. UChicago Arts brings together all arts on campus to create a dynamic community that forges an integrative model for practice, presentation, and scholarship, integrating an ambitious suite of new initiatives, academic departments and programs, professional organizations, and more than 60 student arts organizations. Designed as a home for the creative life of the University of Chicago campus and the City of Chicago, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts is a partner, resource, and catalyst for developing deeper cultural networks and richer creative projects citywide and beyond. The Logan Center is a place where boundaries dissolve and artistic work is amplified through a web of collaborative partners. More than just a building, it is an innovative hub for arts education for UChicago students and Chicago Public School students and families, a platform to showcase today’s most innovative creators across all media, and a locus for impactful and collaborative artistic innovations with partners in nearby South Side communities and across Chicago. The Logan Center also serves as an important connector for work across the arts at the University and supports the broader work of UChicago Arts. The Logan Center and UChicago Arts Communications team leads the Logan Center marketing and communications efforts and supports broad institutional marketing for the arts across the University. The team provides direct marketing support for the programs of the Logan Center including the Arts, Science & Culture Initiative, Logan Center Exhibitions, University Arts Engagement, and Community Arts programs and partner academic and community projects, as well as select UChicago Arts collaborative projects. In addition, the communications team amplifies the communications efforts of Arts + Public Life, Court Theatre, the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry, and the Smart Museum of Art and initiatives such as Public Art, UChicago Arts grants programs, etc. through close collaboration with staff in those areas. In support of the Logan Center’s role as a coordinating hub for the arts at the University, the Logan Center / UChicago Arts Communications team encourages collaborative arts communications efforts across the University through strategic efforts to raise the visibility of the arts at the University. Current communications channels include digital (Logan Center, UChicago Arts, and program specific websites, email newsletters, etc.); social media (Logan Center, UChicago Arts, and program specific channels); content development (news stories, blog posts, etc.); print (event posters, postcards, etc.); and limited paid advertising and public relations efforts. Working closely with communications and programming colleagues across the University, the Logan Center/ UChicago Arts communications team is led by the Director of Communications working closely with a full-time Assistant Director of Box Office & Patron Services, part-time Editorial Content Manager, and a select group of communications consultants.
