The Opportunity
The social media and content strategist develops and executes social media strategies for the various UT System accounts, including the UT System President and the UT System. Position is also responsible for supporting other system entities (Our Tennessee, IPS, CIS, Government Relations, etc.) with original content, event-specific social plans, and training, among others.
This position will be responsible for formulating, writing, shooting and editing content for distribution across social media platforms. Expertise in videography and photography is needed.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Write and generate fresh content for social media that aligns with the UT System brand.
- Develop, write, shoot and produce short-form videography and photography.
- Maintain, monitor and track social media analytics to measure content effectiveness, and constantly works to adjust strategies based on analytics.
- Work with system entities (Our Tennessee, Government Relations, IPS, CIS, etc.) to develop and execute original content and social plans.
- Develop strategies targeted at growing audience and optimizing engagement, including innovative content ideas, promotions, contests, polls etc. that keep with current social media trends.
- Places social media ad buys
- Regularly monitor social media comments, messages, conversations and sentiments involving the UT System and its campuses/institutes.
- Stay current on emerging social media trends, tools, new platforms and best practices.
- Provide training for UT System employees, executives, and others on mobile phone photo/video best practices in order to gather the best possible content from all corners of the system.
- Maintain constant contact and effectively train others throughout the UT System in social media best practices.
- Actively participate in online and in-person training to further develop skills related to digital content and social media.
- Work with other members of the communications and marketing team to develop multi-platform social media campaigns, providing direction to other members of the team as needed.

Qualifications
Required Education & Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Jouralism, Video Production, and/or Photojournalism 5+ years of experience in related communications field.
Candidate must have a firm grasp of visual storytelling, social media planning, conceptualizing, writing and planning. Strong video skills. Must know how to think strategically about communications objectives and how to reach those objectives.
Candidate must:
- Well-organized, self-starter
- Works with minimal supervision
- Exceptional judgment and discretion in posting content, video and images.
- Strong writing and editing skills for social media consumption, and an ability to produce multiple versions of content designed for specific platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and deadlines.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to travel throughout the state as needed for content production.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will strong proficiency with social media platforms. In addition, strong knowledge and use of Adobe Creative Cloud suite including Premiere, After Effects, Prelude, Audition, SpeedGrade, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Character Animator, as well as Apple’s Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor. This position will interact with staff, donors, alumni, faculty and students across the system and on every UT campus and must be able to build and maintain relationship with internal and external audiences.
