Job Summary
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing digital design and content for various communication channels within the Faculty of Arts, with a focus on websites and internal resource sites. This position provides website content strategy and implementation support to help the Faculty programs meet their business goals and objectives.
The incumbent will work with new and existing units in Arts to provide guidance on digital communications best practices within the Faculty by supporting the ongoing content strategy for Arts CMS, arts.ubc.ca and select Arts Internal Resource (AIR) sites.
The position will keep Arts Communications and Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (ISIT) informed on trends and continual improvement opportunities with regards to external-facing websites and internal resource sites in Arts.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Manager, Design, Arts Communications. This position also receives functional supervision from the Manager, Digital Strategy & Engagement, Arts ISIT. Works closely with the other members of the Arts Communications team and Network, Arts ISIT and units across the faculty, and campus communicators.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors in performance of this position compromise the Faculty’s ability to communicate with its students, faculty, alumni, and staff. Errors in judgment and accuracy can also seriously impact
credibility throughout the university and beyond, affecting the image and reputation of individuals and the Faculty.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Design Manager, Arts Communications. This position also receives functional supervision from the Manager, Digital Strategy & Engagement, Arts ISIT.
Supervision Given
Provides some assistance and technical guidance/training to departmental communications and administrative staff. Sharing expertise and acting as a resource for the Faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in web content development including content organization, writing for the web, user experience best practices, and search engine optimization. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to adapt writing styles for various purposes, for different media requirements and for different audiences.
Demonstrated experience using web content management systems, such as WordPress. Strong analytical skills and ability to use analytical tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Crazy Egg) to measure success and deliver actionable recommendations. Knowledge of graphic and web design principles required. Experience with Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) or other digital design tools such as Figma, email marketing systems (such as Envoke), and established and emerging social media platforms.
Familiarity with HTML and CSS is considered an asset.
Ability to effectively use desktop publishing software at an advanced level is an asset. Ability to effectively use email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software at an advanced level. Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations. Ability to compose correspondence, reports, presentations, and other written materials using clear concise business English. Effective project management skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Capacity for creativity and innovation; ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness and judgment.
