Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Digital Communications, the Digital Content Specialist assists in the management and maintenance of the content of the various Finance division websites, as well as provides digital communications support for the division.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the various Finance websites, ensuring regular and timely revisions to content.
    • Respond to and fulfill ongoing requests for content changes on multiple sites (where trained editors are not available)
    • Complete regular Registrar site updates (academic calendar; student and faculty profiles)
    • Complete regular Student Financial Services site updates (complex tuition and fee content)
    • Complete regular, reoccurring Finance site updates (RFPs, Unclaimed Cash, Monthly Close, Endowment Income Distribution)
    • Maintain contact list of Finance staff with site access and editor training
    • Provide ongoing training to new and existing content editors; advocate for the use of training guides and Columbia Sites “User Guide”
  • Provides opportunities for site owners to learn how to continuously improve site visitor/customer experience through user acceptance testing and regular analysis.
  • Assists in maintaining the functional performance and stability of Finance sites by addressing any issues in a timely manner, either directly or working with the Columbia Sites and CUIT web services teams.
  • Assists the Assistant Director with website redesigns, content creation and migration.
  • Creates and/or maintains digital signage, audio-visual, and presentation content, as needed, in support of the communication needs of the division.
  • Stays abreast of innovations in digital content management and user experience tools, strategies and technology to address the needs of the division.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or the equivalent, plus at least three years related experience required.  

Preferred Qualifications

    • Basic video production and editing experience is a plus. 

    • Familiarity with UX design and user research preferred, along with Google app suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides). 

    • Familiarity with a University or other not-for-profit setting highly desirable.

Other Requirements

  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills, and have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Strong organizational skills required, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required. 
  • Editorial experience and an understanding of web publishing and the technical concepts and components involved in implementing web publishing solutions required. 
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud, especially Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign required.
  • Experience with managing web content via Drupal or similar content management system required. 
  • The successful candidate must have sound judgment, with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation.
