The opportunity
As the Development Manager for the Teaching and Learning Service Group, you will join the forward-thinking Digital & Technology Group, and help to lead our shift from a technology-centric to a user-centric approach. You will play a crucial role in steering the evolution of our digital tools, primarily focusing on our Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) among other Teaching and Learning Products.
As Development Manager, you will provide technical leadership in the management and development of Teaching and Learning projects, from conceptualisation through to development, delivery and evaluation. The Development Manager will not only lead and direct but also actively participate in coding tasks – embodying the spirit of a player-coach.
About you
Core Responsibilities
Development Leadership: Lead the planning, prioritisation, and execution of development tasks, ensuring timely completion within agreed timescales.
Team Management: Provide line management, motivation, and personal development for the Teaching and Learning development team, nurturing a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Process Enhancement: Define and implement robust digital development processes within the teaching and learning domain, ensuring quality assurance and best practices are adhered to.
Research & Prototyping: Engage in research and the development of prototypes, staying updated with emerging innovations in the area of teaching and learning.
Collaboration: Work closely with managers across Digital & Technology, fostering excellent customer service, and delivering on service level agreements.
Reporting & Analysis: Provide relevant reports and statistical analysis across all UAL’s teaching and learning technologies, ensuring informed decision-making.
About You
Hold a relevant qualification, e.g., Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or have equivalent relevant experience.
Extensive experience in designing and developing within Virtual Learning Environments, specifically Moodle and Mahara.
Proven management and development experience within a fast-paced digital environment.
Strong programming skills in PHP, Javascript, and HTML/CSS with a good understanding of cloud technologies, such as AWS, Azure.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to an ever-changing technical landscape, with a strong understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines.
