This PhD is a field-intensive project involving various automated and hands-on methods to quantify wildlife use of impacted landscapes (grazing, clearing, and cropping). You will be using acoustic survey methods combined with camera trapping, and traditional trapping and searching, to detect vertebrates and invertebrates in very HOT and REMOTE locations in tropical Queensland Australia. We are using these methods to detect the impact of grazing, clearing and cropping on wildlife, in a specified design. This applicant will have field experience working in hot and remote conditions, and considerable experience identifying animals. You should have a highly sophisticated grasp of the statistics required to compare treatments and make conclusions about impacts.
The ideal candiadate would either have, or be likely to get, a first-class Honours or Master’s degree at an institution of high repute. The degree must have included a research project that represents a significant contribution to the final mark. Published papers in reputable journals are especially valuable evidence of research ability, and are basically a prerequisite for receiving a scholarship in Australia for an international candidate.
If you are interested, please email us with a CV and brief letter stating your interest and background and we will let you know whether we think your skill set and academic record would place you well against the competition.
Applications are open for non-Australian applicants both in Australia and overseas, and for Australian domestic students.
