At Ford, Design Technologists combine experience design and engineering expertise into a single discipline that develops, prototypes, and tests solutions that inspire development teams and leaders to invest in new ideas. Ford is seeking a highly skilled and innovative T-shaped engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset. In this role, you will blend your deep technical expertise in embedded software and electrical engineering with a passion for collaborating with diverse teams to deliver exceptional user experiences and POCs. In this collaborative environment, you will create holistic experiences that will guide future iteration, capture product requirements, and direct product strategy.

What you’ll do…

  • Design, prototype, and develop holistic experiences that seamlessly integrates hardware, software, and design.

  • Develop hardware, firmware, and software drivers for development bucks, mules, and test vehicles.

  • Extensive electrical PCB schematic capture, layout, and rapid prototyping experience.

  • Ability to work independently across early stages of development life cycle while collaborating with engineering teams to iterate further.

  • Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and other quality assurance activities to ensure high-quality deliverables. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.

  • Assist researchers to conduct usability testing, concept & design validation, and other forms of qualitative and quantitative research.

  • Communicate technical concepts, choices, and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 6+ years of professional experience in relevant engineering roles.

  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, JavaScript, or other relevant languages.

  • Experience with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and equivalent microcontrollers or HDKs.

  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and experience with circuit design, prototyping, and testing.

  • Familiarity with communication protocols commonly used in automotive applications and the software/IOT industry such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet, REST, MQTT, Sockets, etc.

  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and debugging using oscilloscopes to JTAG and breakpoints.

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Experience with software development and collaboration tools such as Git, JIRA, Miro, Figma.

This position is a range of salary grades 7-8 .
