The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full time Data Scientist. This position is for a social network analyst to work under the direction of Dr. Mariano Kanamori from the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of  Miami. The analyst will be responsible for analyses, interpretations, reports, and publications.

  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.

  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.

  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.

  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.

  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, operational efficiencies, and other business outcomes.

  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a closely related field of study
  • Three years of relevant experience in SNA research design, implementation, and analyses; preferably in a public health/health setting; in SNA visualization tools (e.g., Cytoscape, Gephi, UCINET, and R); in data manipulation, cleaning, and running bivariate and multivariate analyses using R/SPSS; and in translating findings into manuscripts, conference presentations, and/or reports
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of social network analysis (SNA) research methods
  • Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential SNA analyses (e.g., network structures, centrality, centralization, hypothesis testing, dyadic and network level tests)
  • Working knowledge of SNA models
    • Quadratic Assignment Procedure (QAP)
    • Multiple Regression Quadratic Assignment Procedure (MRQAP)
    • Linear Network Autocorrelation Models (LNAM)
    • Mixed-Effects Models/Multilevel Models (MLM)
  • Working knowledge of both sociocentric and egocentric analyses
  • Willingness to learn or experience in the design and testing of questionnaires for SNA in REDCap, Qualtrics, and/or Network Canvas
