The Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) in the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine is hiring for a Data Analytics Analyst. Under limited supervision, independently responsible for collecting, analyzing and maintaining key UMGCCC data metrics related to the federally-sponsored National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), and Maryland’s Cigarette Restitution Fund (CRF) Programs. The selected candidate will work closely with senior leadership in preparing and finalizing metrics for presentation to internal/external affiliates, private/federal sponsors, and our External Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC); ultimately leading up to our 5-year peer-review process where data is presented to NCI Peer-Reviewers.

Essential Functions
- Support overall UMGCCC metrics and various SOM, NCI/MDH reporting for measuring the success of and retaining Comprehensive status as a center. Generating tables and charts to display the following data: publications, membership, grant funding, pending grants, clinical data, cancer-related events, maintaining master data files, shared service usage, training grant metrics, catchment area data, assisting with senior leadership slide presentations, patent information, splicing and dicing and generating % changes for master data, database management, etc. All data is derived for about 250 cancer center members who hold faculty appointments across UMB/UMCP/UMBC/UMES/Morgan/Towson/ Howard.
- Run searches in federal and state databases as well as work closely with outside campus departments (UMCP, UMBC, UMES) to perform data collection. Maintain Research Logix database.
- Assist the automation of data input, data retrieval, manipulation, and analysis, application of statistics, and visualization tools. Assist in the management of key processes involved in IT infrastructure design, database design, interface design, and information processing for value-based product utilization initiatives.
- Assist investigators with evaluating research projects, assist in the preparation of required agency and/or funder reporting; assist with the preparation of manuscripts and presentations; devise new research proposals; and assist in crucial grant renewal application process.
- Assist in implementation new or enhanced software designed to access and handle data more efficiently.
- Train the data users on new or updated procedures.
- Understands, evaluates, and elicits requirements for complex business questions and challenges. Participates as a member or a lead on multi-function teams and project planning activities. Helps to ensure that projects are completed in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Provide decisions and recommendations on project priorities, functional design changes, process improvements and problem resolution.
- Identify and understand relevant internal and external data for analysis. Design new process and builds large, complex data sets. Identify unique opportunities to collect new data and strategizes new uses for data and its interaction with data design.
- Apply rigorous validation methods to models and provide realistic expectations of model performance when it is generalized to new data. Review publications and literature to validate theories and models.
- Clearly communicate insights discovered from models in a manner which is easily interpretable by general business users. Produce ad hoc, as well as ongoing reports, graphs, charts, tables, and other visualizations to convey hidden patterns and knowledge in data. May present results at meetings and/or conferences.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in predictive analytics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or related field.
Experience: Demonstrated experience with meta-analysis, systematic reviews, and advanced structural equation modeling.
Other: Related experience maybe substituted for education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of deploying data science solutions to the business environment. Knowledge of big data and data mining concepts and technologies. Knowledge data modeling techniques such as: Classification (e.g. Decision Trees and Support Vector Machine), Regression (i.e. Linear and Nonlinear), Clustering (e.g. K-means, and Fuzzy), Time-series modelling and forecasting (e.g. ARIMA, GARCH, and Exponential Smoothing), and Statistical Analysis (e.g. Hierarchical Modeling and Hypothesis Testing).
- Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
The Hiring Range for this position is in the $60,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
