Academic Registry has a focus on student systems and data, and how these can be used to improve processes relating to the student journey. Whether these processes are conducted internally or by our many stakeholders across BCU we want them to run as effectively as possible for the benefit of both students and staff.

Objectives

Contribute to the production of statutory data returns, (e.g., HESA Student, Unistats, Graduate Outcomes, DfE ITT), ensuring that the data used for the returns meets operational requirement by analysing data collected or calculated to ensure the data returns are complete and accurate.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Data Manager, lead on projects to adapt and improve data quality within student systems, analysing the needs of internal and external customer groups to ensure that record structures and data held in the systems are fit for purpose and optimised to support external returns and reporting activities.
  • Lead on and contribute to the preparation of external returns, working with data owners to ensure that the data sets are complete and accurate and to resolve issues arising from the submission to external bodies.
  • Review and contribute to improvements to business processes, ensuring these are effective at ensuring good data quality.

Requirements

  • A good honours degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience in the use of a corporate student record system to produce statutory data returns, in particular using SITS:Vision or ability to learn.
  • Experience of web technologies, particularly in regard to the provision and delivery of information.
  • A self-managing work style with the ability to prioritise, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Whether these processes are conducted internally or by our many stakeholders across BCU we want them to run as effectively as possible for the benefit of both staff and students, and to have a positive influence on student outcomes and the university’s reputation.

Academic Registry is comprised of three strands:

Student Lifecycle & Service Enhancement, with responsibility for delivering key events in the student lifecycle such as examinations and award ceremonies, student fees and funding, and working with stakeholders across the university to drive continuous enhancement to services delivered by or supported by our student systems.

Student Systems & Data, with responsibility for the continued development of systems including our student records system (SITS) and our student enquiries system (SID); a portfolio of operational reports to support the annual cycle of activity; driving improvements in student data quality across the university and meeting our obligations towards statutory external returns.

Timetabling, with responsibility for delivering scheduled teaching and examination timetables to students in accordance with the university’s timetabling principles, supporting the booking of rooms for non-teaching purposes, and working with faculties, schools, and Estates to ensure the curriculum is delivered effectively and appropriately for our students.
