Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

   

Campus Life Enterprise Services (CLES) is the primary revenue-generating unit within Student and Campus Life. As a part of the larger CLES unit, and within Conference and Event Services (CES), the Student Center Facilities Support Team is responsible for the intensive and detailed custodial maintenance, event support and audio-visual (AV) support of Cornell’s Student Centers, and other assigned area(s). The Student Centers are active hubs around campus that allow students, and other members of the community, a way to experience Cornell’s thriving social scene by providing a great place to meet people, grab a bite to eat, or find a place to study. This team is driven by a passion for attention to details in order to provide an excellent customer experience.

Under direct supervision of the manager, the Event Support Team Lead SO-06 leads and directs the work of custodial staff in assigned buildings. This position is responsible for the maintenance of assigned areas to ensure custodial work is complete up to departmental standards and in addition helps provide physically intensive and detailed custodial maintenance of Cornell’s Dining units, or other assigned area(s) which are deemed essential operations.  The Lead serves as a connection between the custodial team and the manager, ensuring performance and operations are running smoothly and effectively.

A successful Dining Support Team Lead SO-06 had the ability to effectively and clearly communicate both verbally and in writing to interact with building guests and students and serve as a good steward of the university. The Lead demonstrates excellent organizational and leadership skills. All employees are accountable for supporting the organization’s values of trust, respect, excellence, teamwork, integrity; and supporting inclusive and sustainable practices in carrying out everyday responsibilities.

Please note: Flexible schedule is needed to support special events and times set by the University (Opening, Closing, Reunions, etc.) and taken an active leadership role during University events; some pre-scheduled weekend/workday work; overtime hours are needed to maintain building operations during inclement weather.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 2-3 years of demonstrated custodial and leadership experience. 

  • Experience performing event setups (i.e. experience setting up tables, chairs, equipment, skirting, etc.)

  • Must have experience with a room scheduling software (i.e. R25 preferred) and basic use of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel)

  • Must be able to effectively read and write in English.

  • Experience with audio visual set-up, operating and troubleshooting audio visual equipment; i.e. LCD projector, projector screens, computer hook-up to LCD projector, lighting, portable sound systems, wired/wireless.

  • Poses & maintain a valid NY State driver’s license.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift moving tables, chairs, etc.

  • Able to climb an 8 ft. ladder. 

  • Able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate necessary power equipment (i.e. floor machines, vacuums, buffers, etc.)  and experience cleaning all types of carpet and floor care.

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures for extended periods. 

  • Must be free of debilitating dust allergies, or have the ability to manage such allergy. 

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of operating related power equipment and cleaning, maintenance of all types of carpet and floor care

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and previous experience working in a Student Center, Event Center, and/or Conference Center operation, preferred.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus. No relocation assistance is provided for this position. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
