The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.
Estates Services’ Environmental Sustainability Strategy sets two ambitious targets; to achieve net zero carbon and to achieve biodiversity net gain, both by 2035.
Through the development of this strategy, the University has committed to offer all students the opportunity to study environmental sustainability, either within or outside the examined curriculum.
As the Environmental Sustainability Curriculum Project Lead, you will play a pivotal role in enabling us to begin this important initiative by determining the current baseline of environmental sustainability education available at the University.
What We Offer
Your satisfaction and wellbeing at work matters to us, so we offer a range of family friendly and financial benefits including:
• An excellent contributory pension scheme
• 38 days annual leave pro rata
• A comprehensive range of childcare services
• Family leave schemes
• Cycle loan scheme
• Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
• Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
We can also offer flexible hybrid working with the split between on-site and home working to be discussed at interview.
About the Role
You will take responsibility for devising and following an effective methodology that can review the current baseline, and then enable the future measurement of the progress made towards the University’s commitments.
You will produce the baseline report of the environmental sustainability curriculum content and present this to the relevant University committees.
You will also play an important role in increasing awareness of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability education.
About You
To be successful in this unique opportunity, you should already possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the field of environmental sustainability, ideally through completing a relevant PhD/Dphil, together with some practical experience.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to manage your own research and associated activities and have previous experience of contributing to both publications and presentations.
Being proactive and demonstrating a collegial approach to team-working is also essential, along with a clear ability to work productively with a diverse range of colleagues across the University.
Application Process
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 21 November at 12:00 midday.
Interviews will take place on 25 November and will be conducted either virtually or face to face.
