Job Summary
This is a grant funded position for the state grant at the Monroe Crime Analysis Center.
The employee analyzes and interprets data using predictive policing methods to distill and disseminate information to various Criminal Justice agencies. The employee gathers and analyzes crime statistics and identifies criminal trends through statistical crime and mapping technologies. This position requires specialized knowledge in the field of crime analysis theories and crime analysis software. The Crime Analyst will direct 100% effort, as regular fulltime employee (40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year) assigned to the project for the project term.
This position will work out of the Monroe Crime Analysis Center located inside the Rochester Public Safety Building at 185 Exchange St., Rochester. This position will have a permanent schedule and may be assigned first or second shift and may work weekends, depending on assignment.
Job Responsibilities

- Work on-site at MCAC (Monroe Crime Analysis Center in Rochester, NY), the designated NYS Crime Analysis Center
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and deliver reports and presentations of analytic results.
- Address emergent public safety threats in relation to CAC activities in NYS;
- Perform a variety of research and analytical tasks;
- Collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze data and trends using standard practices and techniques of crime and/or law enforcement intelligence analysis;
- May perform statistical, spatial, and/or qualitative analyses as needed, making use of standard software packages;
- Work on assignments that are moderately complex under direct or indirect supervision, where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, or a related field plus 0 -1 year’s experience.
Skills:
Geographic Information System’s (GIS) ESRI
Microsoft suite – in particular: Excel, Access, OneNote
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
A master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, or a related field plus 0-1 year
experience in the field of criminology, criminal justice research, or criminal justice policy,
OR
Bachelor’s degree in a social science field plus 3 years’ experience in the field of criminology, criminal
justice research, or criminal justice policy.
