Pitt-Bradford is looking for an imaginative and safety-focused professional to be our Creative Engineering Coordinator. This position plays a critical role in the safe and successful operation of the fabrication facilities in our state-of-the-art George B. Duke Engineering and Information Building.

 

Hiring Range: Salary commensurate with experience

 

Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as the manager and resident expert for the engineering building’s machine shop, makerspace, and student project lab. You’ll help to build a robust fabrication program and assist our faculty and students by providing thoughtful solutions, support, and opportunities.

 

Your day to day will include:

  • Helping students bring their ideas to fruition and encouraging educational excellence
  • Demonstrating how to use machines for classes and instructors and comply with best practice
  • Opening and closing facilities at the beginning and end of shop hours
  • Maintaining a clear, safe, and orderly shop
  • Communicating with community members and local companies to find intern opportunities for promising students
  • Crafting plans for additional programing and identifying potential revenue streams for the fabrication space
  • Servicing machinery and tools
  • Purchasing perishables and tools and maintaining shop inventory

 

Requirements: An associate degree with at least 10 years’ experience; Journeyman’s Machinist papers and relevant experience may be substituted for education requirement.

 

Must be competent with wood, plastic, sheet and general metal fabrication tools. The shop is equipped with a variety of advanced tools. A basic understanding of CNC and manual mills, lathes, and saws is necessary in addition to welders, 3D printers and laser-cutters.

 

An ideal applicant would have a strong working knowledge of 3D and 2D CAD software as well as relevant programming for toolpaths to be used by CNC machines and printers. Familiarity with Microsoft office is also required.

 

Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
