Position Profile: The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, jointly with the Department of
Physiology and Pharmacology, (SSMD) at Western University invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure track) faculty position
in Medicinal Chemistry, at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is part of a larger initiative by
Western University to build a cross-Faculty, world-class program in molecular biotherapeutics and
diagnostics that spans the continuum from discovery to first-in-human trials. Successful candidates will
join recent faculty hires across multiple departments, with expertise in bioinformatics, biotherapeutics,
imaging, inflammation, and public and Indigenous health.
We seek a medicinal chemist working in the field of small molecules directed at the understanding and/or
treatment of neurological illness. The research field is broadly stated as synthetic organic chemistry, with
emphasis on medicinal chemistry and chemical biology themes related to neuroscience. The candidate is
expected to develop an internationally recognized research program in the design, synthesis and
evaluation of molecules, targeting pathways for translational neurological research.

Academic Requirements: The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to contribute to the
teaching excellence of the institution in areas of interest to the Departments of Chemistry and Physiology
and Pharmacology including synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels which may be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments and
teaching statement. Evidence of impactful contributions to teaching, mentorship and leadership activities
related to teaching can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience
leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or
posters. Candidates having demonstrated experience in research training of undergraduate and
graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows is expected. Candidates must provide evidence of
excellence in research, including a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals,
forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, presentations at field-relevant
conferences, awards, and strong endorsements from referees of top international stature.
The successful candidate will be expected to mount independent and innovative research, outlined in the
submitted research statement, and to establish a competitive, and externally funded research program
with multisectoral organizations.
Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required: Candidates must have a PhD degree in Chemistry,
Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or related field with a demonstrated record of excellence in research.
Additional experience as a postdoctoral researcher or equivalent is required.
Compensation Details: The salary for this position will be $120,000 to $150,000 annually,
commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position includes a comprehensive benefits
