Craft Research Fund Project Grants

The Craft Research Fund Project Grants provide up to $15,000 to support research, writing, documentation, images or rights to use images or text, as part of the research or dissertation yet to be completed.
The purpose of the Craft Research Fund is to advance, expand and
support research about craft in the United States.
GOALS
• To support innovative research on critical issues in craft theory
and history.
• To explore the inter-relationship among craft, art, design and
contemporary culture.
• To foster new cross-disciplinary approaches to scholarship in the
craft field in the United States.
• To advance investigation of neglected questions on craft history
and criticism in the United States.
The Craft Research Fund does not support printing costs nor the creation of artwork.

Eligibility & Requirements

For dissertation research
Proposal submitted online via SlideRoom, to include:
500-word essay in one page that summarizes the focus of exhibition and relevance to the advancement of craft in the United States, the goals and objectives of the project, research methodology, dissemination, and, if project includes an online or ongoing component, describe your maintenance plan
Identify three other scholars who have written significant works
on/around your topic, and describe how your work parallels and
pushes the topic forward (500 words or less)
Timeline and schedule for completing the project (project must be completed within 18 months of start date)
Completed budget form from website
Budget narrative if necessary (300 words maximum)
CV of relevant education and experience (maximum 2 pages)
Description of project (no more than 5 pages in no less than 12-point type)
Bibliography with at least 10 sources
Two letters of support: one from a scholar in the field who has expertise pertinent to the project and who is not affiliated with this project and one from an institution, publication, organization, and/or participant, other than the applicant, who is affiliated with the project
