Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, oversees the day-to-day operations of a teaching laboratory. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Plans and organizes laboratory schedules. Coordinates provision of equipment and materials. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Liaises between staff and students. Performs duties related to administering laboratory sections and examinations. Coordinates production of course documents. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Oversees the day-to-day operations of a teaching laboratory. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Confers with professors concerning the scope and objectives of teaching laboratory sessions.
(ii) Plans and organizes laboratory schedules. Reviews existing experiments. Performs literature searches; reviews, selects and modifies methodology. Tests, evaluates and participates in devising new methodology and experiments.
(iii) Assesses equipment needs. Coordinates provision of equipment and materials. Designs or fabricates specialized equipment as required. Oversees set-up of equipment and demonstrations. Oversees equipment loans.
(iv) Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks within field of expertise.
(v) Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results.
(vi) Organizes and assigns laboratory sections. Liaises between staff and students. Resolves problems such as late assignments, timetable conflicts, and make-up laboratory sessions.
(vii) Participates in the development and the selection of teaching aids. Arranges for reserved library materials. Performs administrative tasks related to examinations such as arranging for invigilation and compiling grades. Participates in the correction of students’ written work, such as laboratory reports and assignments.

Other qualifying skills and/or abilities:
Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology an asset. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Excellent time management to enable completion of tasks in the appropriate time. Good knowledge in data entry and analysis. Excellent communication skills in English and French.

DEC III – Medical Laboratory Technology 4 Years Related Experience /
Hourly Salary:
(MUNACA Level 12) $24.65 – $34.01
