Course Description:

EDSL 332 Literacy 2: Teaching Writing in ESL

 Examines current literacy theory and practice, focusing on the teaching of writing skills for the production of texts in various genres, formats and functions, in ESL for elementary and secondary level students. Based on an understanding of writing as a process, key areas include: the adaptation and development of appropriate writing activities; feedback and revision; theme- and literature-based activities; and building upon reading and oral activities.

This course is not Team taught.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:


1. A Master’s degree in Second Language Education or related area (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered).
2. A teaching degree or equivalent and experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL);


1. Expert knowledge of course content;
2. Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP)
3. Familiarity with the 12 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
4. Experience teaching ESL in the Quebec elementary/secondary French school system;
5. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers


1. A commitment to working with a team of committed and engage instructors
2. Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date
