Teaching Secondary English 2

Advanced inquiry into special interest areas in the teaching of Secondary English Language Arts in light of contemporary theory and research. Parts of this course may be undertaken in school settings.

Please note that this course will be allocated to a member using an exemption as per article 15.03.03 of the MCLIU collective agreement.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education

  • Master’s degree related to the course content (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered);

  • Teaching degree or equivalent, and experience teaching English Language Arts in secondary schools

Experience

  • Expert knowledge of course content and English Language Arts pedagogy

  • Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP)

  • Familiarity with the 12 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation,

  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers

  • Experience teaching in the Quebec secondary school system

  • A commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors:

  • Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting in advance of course start date.

Art 15.07 The candidate shall submit her application in writing, in hard copy or electronically to the Department Chair, indicating, in order of preference, on the form reproduced in Appendix 11 the Courses in which she is interested and the number of Courses she wishes to give, during the posting period specified in article 15.04 a).

Please note that given the resumption of in-person teaching activities, most courses will be taught in person. Exams may however need to be administered remotely depending, mainly on the size of the class. Course Lecturers will be required to plan accordingly. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system.
