The course offers a research-led introduction to processes and practices of research writing. Working to develop their research writing projects, students learn to examine, critically reflect on, and participate in the research writing practices in their fields, guided by current research on the discursive construction of knowledge.
Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education:

  • PhD related to language, literacy, composition, rhetoric and/or discourse studies

Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of current research on the discursive construction of knowledge. 

  • Experience mentoring graduate students in research writing

  • Familiarity with various forms of research writing (e.g. quantitative, qualitative, narrative inquiry, autobiographical, self-study)

  • Familiarity with research publication and consumption processes and practices in educational contexts

Other:

Assets:

  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the graduate level

  • Familiarity with myCourses or similar online course platform(s)

  • Familiarity with the online meeting platforms, e.g. ZOOM (if applicable)

  • Familiarity teaching blended classes

  • Familiarity with DISE and McGill policies and guidelines for course, project and thesis writing

This course may be subject to a co-teaching assignment resulting in a reduction of credits (and hours) assigned to each instructor.

Posting Period: October 1, 2022 to October 15, 2022 (inclusive)

Please note that given the resumption of in-person teaching activities, most courses will be taught in person. Exams may however need to be administered remotely depending, mainly on the size of the class. Course Lecturers will be required to plan accordingly. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) . Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
