Course: CAFT 609 – Advanced Couple Therapy, Section 001, CRN 1358

Term/Location/Time: Winter 2025, Tuesdays, 8:35-11:25, FERRIER 230

TQRs:

  • PhD degree or Equivalent in mental health field (i.e., Psychology, Social Work, Counselling Psychology)
  • MSW or MA in mental health field or equivalent with a minimum 8 years of clinical experience focused on assessment and treatment of couples & families
  • Bilingual
  • Supervisory Experience (AAMFT approved supervisor or equivalent) – minimum 8 years of supervisory experience in the area of couple and family psychotherapy
  • Psychotherapy Permit Professional Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ)
  • Completed Graduate or Post-graduate training in couple and family therapy in an accredited university or training center

Demonstrated clinical expertise and teaching supervisory experience in the following areas:

  • The four core modalities of couple therapy practice.
  • The key theoretical tenets of: Humanistic (Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples); Cognitive Behavioral (Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy), Psychodynamic (Psychodynamic Approaches to Couple Therapy; Mentalizing Based Couple Therapy), and Systemic/Communication (Integrated Systemic Therapy for Couples).
  • Advanced psychotherapeutic skills and the importance of common factors in couple treatment.
  • Sexuality and sexual dysfunction in couple treatment
  • Gender, race, poverty, social class and multiculturalism in couple treatment.
  • Couple based practice theory, including advanced skills in assessment, treatment supported by best practices in couple therapy

Demonstrated Clinical & Teaching Experience in the Following Competencies:

1er Domaine : La conduite d’un processus d’évaluation et d’une démarche en thérapie conjugale

Être capable d’évaluer les dynamiques relationnelles d’une couple en tant que système de que celles d’une personne à l’intérieur d’un système Être capable d’établir le résultat d’une évaluation en thérapie conjugale et d’un discuter avec les personnes concernées Être capable de concevoir d’une démarche en thérapie conjugale et d’en discuter avec les personnes concernées Être capable de mettre en œuvre une démarche en thérapie conjugale.

2e Domaine : La gestion des éléments clés entourant la conduite d’un processus d’évaluation et d’une démarche en thérapie conjugale

2.1 Être capable de produire les documents lies a la pratique professionnelle.

2.3 Être capable d’agir en tant que thérapeute conjugale ou thérapeute conjugale dans un contexte de collaboration professionnelle intra disciplinaire ou interdisciplinaire
