Course Developer, Climate Change Certificate

Reporting to the Executive Director of the dynamic and growing School of Environment and Sustainability, this position has the responsibility for the design and development of the third graduate-level course (3 CU) in the re-designed graduate certificate in Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Action . The course would be delivered online in Spring 2023 and focus on what communities, companies, organizations, and/or governments can do to deal with climate change. The successful candidate will be given latitude to propose several different approaches to the course content and will be working with or consulting with SENS faculty to develop the best course outline and content possible. Climate action and social innovation concepts are key. That is, what actions would organizations take to change their own activities, including mitigation, how they would adapt to change, and especially how they could contribute to reversing the causes and/or impacts of climate change.

The position requires knowledge of the curriculum development process, various learning formats, instructional methods, and best practices in adult learning to create a high-quality capstone course that meets the learning and development needs of working adults.

This position is preferably located in Saskatoon but can be remote. The schedule for this position is flexible while maintaining productive relationships and consistent progress toward project goals.

Accountabilities:

The successful applicant will provide advice on the course learning outcomes developed to date and work with the School’s faculty to develop a new course syllabus and to create all activities, assignments, presentations, videos and assessment rubrics for the new course. The candidate will also provide all course materials (e.g., website links, videos, readings, documents) needed by students and create all PowerPoint presentations. This third course will build appropriately on the first two courses and provide an appropriate capstone component to the certificate.

• Familiarity with organization and design of post-secondary curricula and public education materials; development of online curricula would be considered an asset.
• Evidence of commitment to the success of all learners.
• Strong understanding of on-line learning platforms.
• Sound knowledge of theories, practices and strategies pertaining to development and implementation of climate change courses at the post-secondary level.

Experience:

Utilizing learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) to develop and deliver online learning activities for post-secondary students. Demonstrated experience in climate governance (vulnerability, risk assessment, and adaptation) would be an asset. Experience working in university settings is highly valued.

Education:

Graduate degree in environmental sciences or related discipline.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $64,107.00 – 100,169.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
