Compensation 

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)

Duties 

Reporting to the Department Chair or Course Instructor, the duties and responsibilities of the Course Coordinator will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. These include overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course; coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them; assisting in the preparation of marking schemes and coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams; and any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor.

Qualifications 

  • A four-year Honours B.A. or equivalent, in History with a minimum 75% average in History courses;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 20th Century U.S. History is required;
  • Evidence of successful previous university level teaching assistant experience is required.

  • Part-time Graduate Students and Non-Students shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e. not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
