Job Position at The Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine & Performing Arts – Brock University downtown campus
DART 2P42 (Course Coordinator)
Stage Production
Supervised practical work in technical theatre by assignment to Department production crews during the run of a show.
Course Duration: April 29, 2024 – June 12, 2024
Day/time: Friday & Saturday 1000-1600
Compensation
The nominal workload for this position is 25 hours
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Duties
Reporting to the Department Chair or Course Instructor, the duties and responsibilities of the Course Coordinator will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. These include overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course; coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them; assisting in the preparation of marking schemes and coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams; and any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor.
Qualifications
1. BA or equivalent professional experience in technical production in theatre, performance, or a relevant, related discipline.
2. Formal training in post-secondary teaching or successful post-secondary teaching experience. Formal training may consist of workshops offered through Brock’s Centre for Pedagogical Innovation or similar units in other universities. Evidence of teaching success may consist of previous course evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, examples of learning activities designed, or other objective evidence. Please do not submit isolated comments or letters from individual students.
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Please give evidence in the cover letter of application.
4. Excellent organizational skills. Please give evidence in the cover letter of application.
5. Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
6. Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institution.
