Job Summary The Clinical Case Manager provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives. This position will provide clinical case management services as well as crisis counseling to clients at University Counseling Services (UCS) who present to UCS with urgent needs of assistance. It will assist in accessing community-based treatment services and insurance coverage for clients as well as coordinate assistance with other campus departments on behalf of students. In addition, it will serve as the lead in responding to crises and urgent walk-ins at UCS.
The Case Manager/Crisis Counselor works with campus partners to provide services to students in crisis, those students identified from the Student Support Team, and serves as the liaison to area hospitals, community group practice agencies, and other area providers. UCS offers a short-term treatment model and often will refer students out to community providers, higher levels of care, or facilitate hospitalization procedures when needed. They must possess strong communication skills, sophisticated experience managing mental health crises, and knowledge/experience accessing complex medical and mental health services.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years practicing as a licensed mental health clinician
  • State licensed in Wisconsin, or license-eligible as an independent LPC or LCSW and/or psychologist
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of strong crisis management skills involving mental health emergencies
  • Experience working as a case manager locating and accessing community-based mental health services
  • Evidence of strong communication and networking experience
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the nuances of collegiate student mental health
  • Experience treating clients across various spectrums, including race, ethnicity, orientation, gender identity, ability and economic status through a social justice lens
  • Experience working with high-risk and high-acuity populations
  • Experience providing brief treatment
  • Experience using Medicat or other electronic health records
  • Ability to be highly flexible and modify work and treatment approaches to meet the changing needs of a student population
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other staff, faculty, and departments and positively contribute to a client care team

Starting salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits, including vacation and sick leave. There are no weekend or on call responsibilities and no insurance billing or paperwork to complete.
