Job Description Summary
Provides personal, career and academic skills counselling to UBC students. Participates in the training and supervision of graduate students. Provides consultation and outreach services to the campus community. Participates in the development and delivery of programs which enhance student success.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Director, Counselling Services, Student Development and Services. Works cooperatively as a member of a team of professionals, actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of effective and efficient counselling services. Works in collaboration with the Faculties and other University departments, student organizations, and staff in other areas of Student Development and Services.
Work Performed
1. Provides intake assessment, and referral within Counselling Services and to other University and community resources as appropriate.
2. Provides individual, couples, family, and group counselling for personal, career, and academic concerns.
3. Administers and interprets personality and career instruments.
4. Participates in regular case conferences as a member of a team of professionals.
5.Develops and delivers psychoeducational workshops for students, as well as programs and publications to meet the needs of targeted segments of the student body (e.g. mature students, students with disabilities, women students; issues such as self-esteem, study skills, stress management). Develops and implements outreach educational programs for students with faculties and departments.
6. Participates in the development of policies and procedures concerning counselling services and programs.
7. Provides consultation services to faculty and staff regarding the well-being and psychological concerns of students. Liaises with faculties, departments and other student services regarding the provision of programs and services which enhance student development.
8. Provides clinical supervision and training for pre-doctoral interns in intake assessment, supervision of practicum students, individual counselling and group counselling. Participates in supervision and training of practicum students in individual and group counselling.
9. Coordinates the design, implementation, and analysis of program evaluation and research projects specific to area of coordination.
10. As requested, represents Counselling Services on University committees related to student development.
11. Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Counselling Services as requested.
