• Salary between $111,966 to $126,271 + 17% Superannuation

About the opportunity

As a Counsellor, you will work within the Student Counselling Services of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Education portfolio. You will deliver one-to-one psychological counselling to University students, develop group workshop programs, deliver training programs and liaise with the administrative and faculty arms of the University.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• report to the Counselling Services Team Lead, and work in a team of counsellors (psychology, social worker and counselling backgrounds)

• deal with specific concerns of students, including students from equity groups & international students

• plan, design, implement and evaluate outreach programs and project work within an academic context

• contribute to Quality Assurance mechanisms by keeping relevant statistics and collating data

• cultivate appropriate relations with internal service providers, administrative and faculty arms

• contribute to professional development activities, supervision, and staff meetings

• provide appropriate crisis intervention as needed, including liaison with University security personnel, local area Mental Health teams, and external psychological service providers.

About you

• tertiary qualifications in Clinical Psychology and/or relevant post degree experience in a clinical role

• registered with the appropriate association as a psychologist, clinical psychologist, social worker or mental health nurse

• a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one  

• core competencies in mental health assessment and management using evidence-based interventions

• expertise in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of biopsychosocial problems

• commitment to best-practice short-term interventions within stepped-care wellbeing and student experience framework

• mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Vietnamese, Indonesian and/or Korean language skills are highly desirable.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
